Theresa May’s government controlled internet

Senior Tories confirmed to BuzzFeed News that the phrasing indicates that the government intends to introduce huge restrictions on what people can post, share and publish online.

The plans will allow Britain to become “the global leader in the regulation of the use of personal data and the internet”, the manifesto claims… More at The Independent.

I hate everything about this idea and everything about the Conservative government. And everything about Theresa May.

  1. They can’t be serious. And you were worried about Trump. And no doubt they’d be using algorithms to determine what is “offensive”. Usually the government takes away privacy and freedoms bit by bit, but this is a major grab, especially these days.

    And this comment would probably be restricted because it criticizes something the government is doing.

  2. With Brexit and the predicted Tory landslide, I’m genuinely worried that the UK is heading towards a fascist state at best, or a totalitarian one at worst. I hope I’m wrong.

  3. Just read this article on cbc.ca regarding the Canadian government asking people what they think and what they want. While the questions didn’t go so far as the proposal mentioned in this post, Canadians generally are against the use of any technique that provides more access by law enforcement and/or government. It’s not that we’re not concerned about terrorism or criminal activity, it’s just that we put a higher priority on our privacy and freedoms. I imagine that there would be a greater negative response to anything like May’s proposals.
