Social media researchers contend that when users tailor content to whatever reaps the most engagement or outrage, the result is an extreme environment that makes healthy interactions practically impossible. I have pondered this and do think that it is a positive move. It could backfire and cause a sudden drop in activity, but in the long run it should cure a few of the problems that have plagued the service.
